What is Coaching?

Just like coaching in sports, life coaching is a process through which an individual’s goals can be achieved. It is defined as a way of interaction to help the individual in identifying, defining and achieving their goals. Life coaching can help any person in improving their performance as well as achievement of great success. The most effective type of coaching occurs within a context which not only solves problem but is also focused on providing solutions. Coaching is a wide spectrum and comes in two categories: life coaching and executive coaching.

Life coaching is the process in which an individual is helped in clarifying what they want to achieve in life and how to achieve it. It encompasses different types of approaches to help different people. The life coach will seek to understand the experiences and the circumstance in which their clients live in and try to help them in finding the best out of it. Most of the time life coaching is based on the trust and empathy between the coach and the client. It also requires the willingness of the client as well as their desire to focus on the future. For this reason, life coaching is seen as a non-judgmental and continuous equal partnership between client and coach.

Executive coaching is on the other hand, is a process through which those in a company are assisted in achieving and enhancing their effectiveness at work. It involves a number of things such as the exposure to different philosophies and ideas that deal with how to coach staff, increase conflict resolution skills, leadership skills and improve communication among staff and clients. This type of coaching is provided within a supportive and structured environment to ensure that the time and the resources are used effectively and productively. These programs are usually tailor made to meet the needs of the executive in terms of their goals and personality. The process may also take place in different platforms and may focus on different aspects of the executive’s life including effective communication training, problem solving, leadership development and time management among others. Some programs involve working with the colleagues in order to achieve high level of efficiency and productivity.

Coaching comes with different types of benefits without regard to the type selected. Since it is geared towards the identification and achievement of goals, the client will have a new sense of control that would enable him or her handle the different aspects both positive and negative in their lives. The improvement in productivity and efficiency in their life and career not only reduce the pressure on the individual but also make them happier and physically healthier. The other benefits include the achievement of work and life balance as well as the development and improvement of all their relationships.
